Lydall provides a range microglass and membrane products ideally suited for prefiltration and clarification in biopharmaceutical processes. Typical uses for Lydall biopharmaceutical media include the following applications:

  • Fermentation
  • Cell culture
  • Serum
  • Ophthalmic solutions
  • Plasma fractionation
  • Vaccines
  • Parenterals
  • Low and high volume pharmaceutical production

Our LyPore® line of media filters at absolute efficiencies for particles smaller than 3μm. The media separates and retains suspended solids including colloids, lipids, bacteria and other particles. Layers of media with finer filtration capabilities are often co-pleated to achieve specific particle separations. Glass pre-filter layers offer high retention of particles. They protect downstream membranes from contaminants thereby increasing the useable lifetime.

Our LyPore® XL media provides higher dirt holding capacity and increased flow rates with similar separation characteristics as compared to the standard LyPore line. This enables improved protection for membranes, as higher efficiency pre-filters can be used without sacrificing filter service life.

Different than for most other porous membranes, Solupor® ultra high molecular weight polyethylene has a unique pore structure, being highly tortuous, with the membrane itself having a fibrilar structure somewhat similar to a nonwoven. Solupor is gamma sterilizable, environmentally friendly and meets USP Class VI requirements for biocompatibility.

Lydall developed the capability to control endotoxin levels in our process feed water. This allows us to deliver the highest quality of pharmaceutical grade microglass media in the industry. The LyPore and Lypore XL lines are composed solely of 21 CFR listed materials and are designed for low extractives to meet FDA and USP requirements.
