Drinking Water

Lydall recognizes that consumers are increasingly concerned about the quality of their drinking water. Lydall supplies media for a wide range of current applications and we are engaged in research and development activities to address the newest concerns in providing consumers with healthy drinking water. Our media is incorporated into point of entry (POE) and point of use (POU) filters. Performance attributes range from sediment filtration to chlorine removal to cyst and bacteria removal.

Sediment and Pre-Filtration

Lydall supplies a number of products which meet the varying needs for sediment and pre-filtration. Wet-laid microglass LyPore® grades are ideal if absolute sediment removal is required for particles 15μm or smaller. These products are typically used in pleated cartridges for whole house POE systems, POU devices or as pre-filter units within a reverse osmosis system.

LyPore microglass and LyPore® MB 100% polypropylene media are frequently incorporated as a wrap for carbon blocks in POE and POU filters. The use of a prefilter media increases the life of carbon block filter units by capturing and retaining particles which would otherwise occupy pores on the block. LyPore offers high absolute efficiencies while LyPore MB is an economical option for less demanding applications.

Taste & Odor

Lydall is the worldwide industry leader in the supply of wet-laid activated carbon media for taste and odor applications. ActiPure® is widely used in NSF-certified whole house POE filters. This media combines chlorine removal with mechanical filtration of particles as small as 5μm. ActiPure's high capacity for chlorine and particle removal ensures desired filter performance throughout a minimum 15,000 hour POE filter usage cycle.

Health

Lydall developed FDA grades optimized for improving the health effects of drinking water. The workhorse LyPore® grades' reputation for removal of cryptosporidium and giardia in NSF 53 certified filters is firmly established. With its bacteria removal capability, the tightest grade of LyPore provides peace of mind in critical situations when the available water supply is of unknown quality. Our higher performing LyPore® XL grades are suited for applications requiring higher flow rates, higher operating pressures and longer filter life.

More recently, Lydall introduced the Solupor® line of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene membranes.  With a wide range of submicron efficiencies available, Lydall now offers a full suite of filter media for virtually any drinking water filtration application.
