Membrane Pre-Filter

Filters are commonly used to reduce influent particle levels upstream of a membrane. This increases the lifetime of the membrane and improves overall system performance. This is particularly true in reverse osmosis applications, though pre-filters also provide advantages for microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes. Membrane systems incorporating depth and surface pre-filters are increasingly used by a wide number of industries. Typical applications are noted below:

Lydall's full range of media products are excellent pre-filters for high value membrane products. Our LyPore® and LyPore® XL microglass media provide the highest efficiency particulate removal and greatest dirt holding capacity. They are ideal for applications demanding the highest level of purity.

Our 100% polypropylene LyPore® MB products provide broad chemical compatibility. They are a cost effective option when particles 5μm and above need to be removed from the influent stream. Lydall also offers calendered synthetic media that achieve high efficiency filtration of particles smaller than 5μm.

The ActiPure® line of activated carbon media effectively removes chlorine from influent streams. Chlorine is harmful to a number of membrane types, in particular reverse osmosis membranes. Using ActiPure based filters upstream will increase the life and ensure the integrity of downstream membranes.
